How to Write Case Studies for Your Business Website
A simple case study structure for service businesses: client, challenge, approach, what you delivered, results and a client quote, plus tips on permissions, visuals and SEO.

On this page
- Structure: client, challenge, approach, what you delivered, results, quote and call to action.
- Only share results the client agrees to and you can back up.
- Give each case study its own page and link it to the services used.
Case studies show potential clients what it's actually like to work with you, and prove you've solved problems like theirs before. For service businesses, they're often the most persuasive content on the website.
A simple case study structure
- The client: who they are and what they do, in one or two sentences
- The challenge: what they needed and why it mattered
- Your approach: key decisions and why you made them
- What you delivered: the specific work, features or outputs
- Results: what changed, backed by facts the client is happy to share
- Client quote: in their own words, with permission
- Call to action: "Want something similar? Let's talk."
Be honest about results
Only share numbers you can back up and the client agrees to publish. If you don't have hard numbers, describe concrete outcomes instead, such as a new booking system, faster pages or a site the team can finally update themselves. Never invent results.
Marketing agencies are judged on this more than most businesses; see what a digital marketing agency's own website needs.
Make it visual
- Screenshots or photos of the finished work
- Before and after comparisons where relevant
- A short summary box: client, industry, services, tools used
Permissions
Ask clients before naming them or showing their work. Agencies doing white-label work should never publish those projects under their own name without the agency's consent.
Make case studies work for SEO
- Give each case study its own page with a descriptive title
- Link to the services you provided, and link back from those service pages
- Mention the client's industry, so the page supports your industry pages
- Use descriptive alt text on screenshots
See internal linking explained.
Examples
The case studies on this site follow this pattern: client, what the website needed to do, what was built, the tools used, and links to related services. For instance, see Vansh Group or Our Temples.
Start with one
Pick your best recent project, ask the client for a short quote, and write it up using the structure above. One strong case study is worth more than a gallery of unexplained logos.
