  • Improve ROI with more traffic, better conversion rates and better-fit leads.

A website is an investment, and like any investment you should know whether it's paying off. You don't need complicated tools to measure it. Here's a simple, practical approach for small businesses.

Step 1: Decide what counts as a conversion

A conversion is an action that leads to business:

  • Contact form submissions
  • WhatsApp clicks and phone calls
  • Online orders or bookings
  • Quote requests and brochure downloads

Step 2: Track conversions

  • Set up Google Analytics 4 and mark key actions as key events. See setting up GA4 and Search Console.
  • Ask every new enquiry "How did you find us?" and note it
  • For calls and WhatsApp, use distinct links or numbers where practical

Step 3: Estimate what a lead is worth

Use simple numbers from your own business:

  1. Average value of a customer (first job, or lifetime value if they return)
  2. How many enquiries turn into customers (your close rate)
  3. Lead value = customer value × close rate

For example, if a customer is worth ₹30,000 and you win 1 in 5 enquiries, each enquiry is worth about ₹6,000.

Step 4: Add up your costs

  • Build or redesign cost (spread over its expected life, say 3 years)
  • Hosting, domain, licences and maintenance
  • Content, SEO and advertising spend

Step 5: Compare

Website ROI = (value generated − costs) ÷ costs. Even a rough monthly view (enquiries × lead value vs monthly costs) tells you whether the site is earning its keep.

Improve the numbers

  • More visitors: SEO, content and ads
  • Better conversion rate: clearer calls to action, trust signals, WhatsApp and faster pages. See 12 ways to get more enquiries.
  • Higher lead value: attract better-fit clients with focused service pages

Review monthly

Check enquiries, sources and conversion rates once a month. Double down on the pages and channels that produce customers, and fix the ones that don't.
