Key takeaways
  • Distance shapes local results, so plan for the Pune and PCMC areas you genuinely serve rather than the whole city.
  • Build area pages only where you have real local jobs, reviews and details; swapped-name pages are doorway pages.
  • Choose Marathi, Hindi or English based on how your customers actually talk to you, and track which areas bring enquiries.

Pune is really several local markets stitched together. Someone in Kothrud looking for a physiotherapist, a family in Wakad searching for pest control and a purchase manager in Chakan hunting for a fabricator are all "in Pune", but they see different results and expect different things. I'm based in Pune myself, and this guide covers what changes when your market is Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. For the basics, start with the step-by-step local SEO guide.

Think in areas, not just "Pune"

Google's local results lean heavily on distance, so a business in Hadapsar rarely appears in the map pack for someone searching from Baner, however good its profile. In a city this spread out, customers also prefer someone nearby, and they often search by locality: "dentist in Aundh", "AC repair Pimple Saudagar" or "CA office near Deccan".

  • Be honest about your catchment. A clinic or salon mostly serves people within a short drive. A plumber, interior designer or packers and movers company may genuinely cover the whole city.
  • Remember the PCMC split. Localities such as Wakad, Nigdi and Bhosari fall under Pimpri-Chinchwad, and addresses there often say so. Customers don't think in municipal boundaries, so mention both names naturally if you serve both.
  • Industrial buyers search differently. Manufacturers and suppliers around Chakan, Bhosari and the other MIDC areas get searches like "CNC machining Chakan" or "sheet metal fabrication Pune", which are answered by websites and B2B directories as much as by the map.

Area pages: only for neighbourhoods you genuinely serve

The tempting shortcut is a page for every locality, "Best interior designer in Baner", "Best interior designer in Kharadi", with only the name swapped. Those are doorway pages, and they tend to drag the whole site down. See local landing pages without doorway pages for the rules.

A Pune area page earns its place when you can fill it with things that are true only of that area:

  • Projects or jobs you've completed there, with photos shared with the customer's permission
  • Reviews from customers in that locality
  • Local conditions that change the work, such as older buildings in the peth areas of the old city, or newer high-rise societies with their own rules on work timings and lift use
  • Practical details: which branch or team covers it, typical response time, and landmarks or parking if customers visit you

Start with the two or three areas that already bring you the most work. If customers don't come to your premises, the approach in SEO for service-area businesses applies: one strong page per service plus a clear list of areas served, with dedicated area pages added only as real jobs and reviews build up.

Get your Google Business Profile right for Pune

  • Pin the location accurately. Pune addresses often depend on landmarks, lane numbers and society names. Check the map pin sits on your actual entrance, not on the main road or the wrong side of a flyover.
  • Hide the address if customers don't visit you, and set realistic service areas instead of listing every locality in the city.
  • Choose the most specific primary category and add only genuine secondary ones.
  • Keep hours accurate, including your weekly off and special hours around Ganeshotsav, Diwali and other holidays when many businesses change timings.
  • Add photos that help people find you: the building, signboard, entrance and parking, because "which building is it?" is a common question in busy areas.

Use exactly the same business name, phone number and address on your profile, website and every listing, so everything reads as one business.

Marathi, Hindi or English?

Pune customers search in all three languages, and the right mix depends on who your customers are rather than on a general rule.

LanguageOften suits
EnglishB2B, IT and professional services, and newer residential areas where people have moved in from across India
MarathiBusinesses serving long-established local families, traditional services, older customers, and anyone whose customers already talk to them in Marathi
HindiServices used by people who have moved from Hindi-speaking states, and businesses recruiting workers

Whatever you choose:

  • Look at how customers actually word their WhatsApp messages and calls, and ask a few which language they prefer
  • Translate a few important pages properly (home, main services, contact) rather than machine-translating the whole site
  • Give each language its own URLs and set up hreflang so Google shows the right version; see hreflang and multilingual SEO for Indian websites
  • Remember that many Marathi and Hindi speakers still type searches in English or in Roman script, so a clear English page with local place names may already reach them

Local listings and mentions that matter

  • The basics: Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Maps and the big Indian directories such as Justdial and Sulekha, all with identical details
  • B2B: IndiaMART or TradeIndia for manufacturers and suppliers, plus member listings from industry associations and chambers of commerce you genuinely belong to
  • Local mentions: Pune-focused news sites and blogs, sponsorships of college or society events, and suppliers or partners who can link to you

Keep a simple sheet of every listing and its login. When you move premises, update them all, because old addresses linger for years. And ignore cold calls promising a "top position in Pune" on a paid directory; a listing is worth having only if your customers use that platform.

Reviews: steady, genuine and replied to

  • Ask every happy customer, ideally on WhatsApp the same day, with your direct review link
  • A gentle prompt such as "it helps if you mention which service we did" is fine; never write reviews for customers, buy them or offer discounts in return
  • Reply to every review, in the language the customer used where you can
  • Show a few genuine reviews on the relevant service or area page of your website

Track where your Pune enquiries come from

  • Add an optional "Your area" field to enquiry forms, or ask callers which locality they're in
  • Check Business Profile performance for calls, direction requests and website clicks
  • In Search Console, filter queries containing "pune", "pcmc" or locality names to see which area searches already find your pages
  • Add UTM tags to the website link on your Business Profile so its visits show separately in Google Analytics

After a few months you'll know which neighbourhoods deserve a proper page, and which you can stop chasing.
