Key takeaways
  • Check first impression, mobile usability, speed and contact paths.
  • Review content, proof, Google visibility and security basics.
  • Fix broken contact paths first, then mobile, speed, missing pages and SEO.

You don't need to be technical to spot the problems that cost your website enquiries. Set aside an hour, open your site on your phone and computer, and work through this audit.

1. First impression (5 minutes)

  • Can someone tell what you do within five seconds of landing on the homepage?
  • Is there a clear next step (call, WhatsApp, quote)?
  • Does it look current and professional?

2. Mobile check (10 minutes)

  • Is text readable without zooming?
  • Are buttons easy to tap?
  • Any sideways scrolling or overlapping content?
  • Can you call or WhatsApp in one tap?

3. Speed (5 minutes)

Test your homepage on PageSpeed Insights (mobile). Note the Core Web Vitals and top suggestions; see speed test tools explained.

4. Contact paths (10 minutes)

  • Submit your own contact form: did the email arrive?
  • Are phone number, WhatsApp and address correct everywhere?
  • Is contact information visible on every page?

5. Content (10 minutes)

  • Does each main service have its own page?
  • Are prices, hours, team and services up to date?
  • Are there testimonials, case studies or real photos?

6. Google visibility (10 minutes)

  • Search your business name: do you appear, with a Google Business Profile?
  • Search your main service plus city: where do you appear?
  • Search site:yourdomain.com to see roughly how many pages are indexed

7. Security basics (5 minutes)

  • Does every page show the padlock (HTTPS)?
  • When were WordPress and plugins last updated?
  • Do you have recent backups?

8. Prioritise (5 minutes)

  1. Broken forms or contact details: fix today
  2. Mobile and speed problems
  3. Missing service pages and proof
  4. SEO and content improvements

For a deeper look, see the technical SEO audit. If the list is long, consider a redesign.
