Key takeaways
  • Embed a map on the contact page and lazy-load it to protect speed.
  • Add a "Get directions" button and the address as text.
  • Keep name, address and phone identical to your Google Business Profile.

A map on your contact page helps customers find you and confirms you're a real, local business. But a careless map embed can slow your site down. Here's how to do it well.

Embed options

  • Standard embed: search your business on Google Maps, choose "Share", then "Embed a map", and paste the code. It's free and simple.
  • Maps via API: custom styling, multiple markers and advanced features. It requires an API key and billing setup with usage limits.
  • Static image with a link: a map image linked to Google Maps. It's the lightest option.

Keep it fast

Embedded maps load extra scripts and can be heavy, especially on mobile.

  • Place the map only where it's useful, usually the contact page, not every page
  • Lazy-load the map so it loads only when scrolled into view
  • Or show a static preview that loads the interactive map on tap

Make directions easy

  • Add a clear "Get directions" button that opens Google Maps on phones
  • Write the address in text too, not just in the map, so it's readable, copyable and understood by search engines
  • Add landmarks, parking information and entry details

Multiple locations

For several branches, give each its own section or page with address, map, hours and phone, rather than one crowded map. Keep each branch's details matching its Google Business Profile.

Consistency helps local SEO

Your business name, address and phone on the website should match your Google Business Profile exactly. Add LocalBusiness schema with the same details; see the local SEO guide and Google Business Profile checklist.

Service-area businesses

If customers don't visit you (for example home services), you may not want to show a precise address. List the areas you serve instead, and set a service area on your Google Business Profile.
